The 4th Mindat.org Conference will be held in Myanmar in November 2016!

We've been wanting to announce this for a while now, but it's been a bit difficult to confirm things until now. But yes, we will be holding our 4th Conference in Myanmar - primarily within the Mogok region - in November this year.

We wanted to make sure that things settled down and were stable after the elections. They have and they are. We have great support from the government on the trip, and we have experienced local organizers who are helping to make this work. They have run several gemology-related trips into Mogok before so we have exactly the right team to help us on this.

Highlights include:

Visiting topaz, tourmaline, peridot, painite, spinel, corundum and other localities.

Usual mindat.org conference mixture of field trips, social activities, tourism and presentations.

You'll need to arrive in Myanmar on November 2nd for start of our trip on the morning of the 3rd. That's quite achievable for those who want to come from the Munich show. Trip ends November 12th (there may be an option for some unofficial additional tourist days with our guides afterwards for those who want to stay more.)

All permits and permissions for collecting (in those places where permitted) and export of samples obtained for you.

A surprise or two on the way. Those who have been to our conferences before know we like to keep a few things to ourselves.

Price: All inclusive of all tours, conference, hotel, fees, meals, internal travel: $2,900. Excludes your airfare to Myanmar, excludes your bar bills, etc. Excludes the cost of the great minerals you'll want to buy from the local miners and markets.

And now the bad news...

We found, by accident, the perfect way to promote this conference. We told a small number of people about the idea to test the water to see if it would work, and we told them not to tell anyone else. But strangely our mailbox started to fill with "Can I go too?" requests. Our initial limit of 40 people was almost full by the day we wanted to announce the conference, and it's no fun to announce an event and say "sorry, it's already full!"

Fortunately... we've been able to increase the number of spaces to 50 - but if you are interested and want to get on the waiting list DO NOT DELAY because as I write there are less than ten places left. Of course this assumes that everyone who said they want to go actually pays their deposit in time, so there's still a chance even if you don't see this message for a few days.

IF YOU WANT TO SIGN UP FOR THE CONFERENCE THEN YOU MUST DO THE FOLLOWING:

email your full name and contact details to ida@mindat.org

Ida will then confirm everything with you
